Empathy — the ability to understand what someone else is feeling — is one of the greatest and most underused tools in the workplace. It helps us connect with others and chart a trusted path forward together. When practiced, empathy helps us grasp complex problems, build more productive teams, co-create innovative solutions, and improve our relationships with colleagues, clients, and customers.

You’ll walk away with a framework you can turn to whenever you need to help you lead with understanding, empathy, and compassion.

- A piece of paper (preferably letter/A4, but a scrap piece will work too!)
- A writing tool
- Someone in mind who you’d like to understand better (feel free to think of someone with whom you don’t see eye-to-eye)
